Christmas message
21st December 2011
This has been my first full year as Member of Parliament. It’s been a steep learning curve but it is the best job in the world and the best thing about is the number of people and organisations that I get to speak to in the area.
This year, I have held 23 surgeries and worked to help 1,032 people who have contacted me. I have taken up a number of campaigns on behalf of the community, including the campaign to protect the remains of Halesowen Abbey and campaigning against cuts to the local fire service.
Christmas is a time of joy and celebration but we should also remember that ongoing economic problems are causing many families great difficulties at the moment. I am working on a number of projects to help local people to find work or apprenticeships, connecting local job seekers with the companies who do still have vacancies.
I always remember what a privilege it is to represent Halesowen & Rowley Regis and I look forward to continuing to work for you next year.
I hope that you, your families and loved ones have a very Merry Christmas and that the new year brings you everything that you wish for.
