Minister lined up for Apprenticeship Fair
Government Minister Matthew Hancock has been confirmed as the guest of honour at the Halesowen & Rowley Regis Apprenticeship and Skills Fair on 3rd May.
The Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning will be opening the event, which is being organised by local MP James Morris.
He will also be speaking at an event for local businesses on the morning of the Apprenticeship Fair, to listen to their views on addressing the skills gap facing local employers. read more »
MP launches Halesowen & Rowley Regis Apprenticeship Fair
Hundreds of apprenticeships and training places are expected to be up for grabs at an apprenticeship fair being organised by Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris.
The MP is organising the first Halesowen & Rowley Regis Apprenticeship and Skills Fair on Friday 3rd May at the Zion Christian Centre.
The event builds on the success of the Jobs Fair organised by James Morris last summer, which attracted 700 local jobseekers and had job vacancies and training opportunities from dozens of employers and training providers. read more »
Generous shoppers bring Christmas cheer
Shoppers at Asda in Halesowen helped to make Christmas a little easier for some of the most vulnerable people in the community by donating food and household goods for distribution by a local charity.
Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris joined volunteers from the Black Country Food Bank to ask people doing their last-minute Christmas shopping to add an extra item to their shopping list to help people in crisis. read more »
Halesowen News Column: Christmas is a time to reflect
I spent a lot of last week visiting local primary schools, handing out certificates to pupils who had entered my Christmas card competition, as well as prizes to the winners.
It was great to see so many children from so many schools getting involved, and all of their entries are in display in the Cornbow Centre in Halesowen, on the side of the 99p Store by Asda.
The energy amongst the children in the run-up Christmas is almost intoxicating, as they rehearse nativity plays and make Christmas cards and decorations. read more »
MP joins police chief on night patrol
Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris has joined Halesowen’s Neighbourhood Policing Inspector, Dez Lambert, on a patrol of the town’s trouble hot-spots.
The pair walked round areas in Belle Vale, Hayley Green and Lapal where residents have reported recent incidents and spoke to residents and local traders about their experiences. read more »

James has published his latest Annual Report, setting out some of the work that he has been doing on behalf of people in Halesowen & Rowley Regis, both in Parliament and here in the constituency.

Making sure that work pays
This month’s unemployment figures show another welcome fall in the number of people in Halesowen and Rowley Regis who are out of work.
While they say that you can prove anything with statistics, I know that every new job created locally means another family being able to look forward to a more confident and comfortable life together.
It is also a sign that, despite economic problems around the world, our own local economy is picking up, giving firms in the area the confidence to recruit workers to help meet growing order books. read more »
Final chance for students to enter national product design competition
Local secondary school students have just a few days left to enter a national product design competition to find the next James Dyson.
The We Made It! competition invites young people aged 13-16 to submit designs and ideas for a gadget, gizmo, toy or tool they'd like to see made.
Students have until 22nd October to submit their entries, which will be judged by Halesowen & Rowley Regis MP James Morris, Halesowen News editor Paul Walker, and Managing Director of Sandvik Holdings Alan Boulton. read more »
Supporting the World's Biggest Coffee Morning with Halesowen Barclays bank staff
Staff at Halesowen’s branch of Barclays Bank took time out to back the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris joined bank staff and customers at the tea and cake stall, which raised £297.06 for the charity.
Barclays Bank have promised to match the amount raised at each of their branches pound-for-pound. read more »
