Rowley Regis hospital campaign gathers pace
15th March 2010
The campaign to save wards and services at Rowley Regis hospital gathered pace this week with over 400 people signing up to a Save Rowley Hospital facebook page set up by Brickhouse Estate resident Sue Cooksey. Sue who lives in Harvest Road, Rowley Regis, set up the facebook campaign in response to the campaign launched by James Morris, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Halesowen and Rowley Regis, following the sudden closure of the Eliza Tinsley ward and the proposed closure of the McCarthy ward which would bring to an end all 'in-patient' facilties at the Moor Lane site.
Sue Cooksey said: 'We are focussing the campaign on trying to save McCarthy ward. We are very angry at the way closure of Eliza Tinsley ward was handled and are very anxious about the further proposed ward closures. We are determined to fight to save McCarthy ward and to protect other services at the hospital.'
James Morris said: 'Many Local residents, lots of whom work or have been patients at the hospital, have contacted me to say how angry they are at the closures. I am very pleased that local residents are taking up the fight, particularly over the proposed closure of McCarthy ward.'
