Making our streets cleaner and safer

Looking after neighbourhoods across Halesowen and Rowley Regis is vital for many reasons. Crime and anti-social behaviour can make people’s lives a misery and can significantly hinder businesses.
I am clear that tackling issues like pot holes, metal theft, littering and graffiti are major concerns for local people. I am working with businesses, local authorities and communities themselves to enhance the local area – through mechanisms such as neighbourhood cleanups.

Twenty-eight local supporters and volunteers – ranging from toddlers to pensioners – dodged the showers and hailstorms for a spring clean in Hurst Green Park in Halesowen.
The clean-up, which was organised by Halesowen and Rowley Regis MP James Morris and Conservative candidate Mike Wood, was intended to clear the park of rubbish to make it a nicer, cleaner place for local families to enjoy.
The event was the latest in a series of community litter picks, following on from the clean-up that they organised in Hope Street Park earlier this year.

Action to bring buildings in Halesowen High Street up to scratch has been promised by the buildings’ landlords.
The buildings, which house businesses including The Carpet Shop and Rainbow Café, have been slammed as an “eyesore” and “a blight on the High Street” by Halesowen shoppers.
Halesowen & Rowley Regis MP James Morris wrote to the owners of the buildings after being contacted by a number of local residents about the peeling paint along the tops of the shop fronts. read more »
