Local MP calls for manufacturing support
12th July 2011
James Morris, MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis, spoke in Parliament last week to press the Energy Secretary the importance of boosting the manufacturing sector. James said that it was important that “we strike a balance between generating new (green) jobs and protecting jobs in the existing manufacturing sector”.
The Energy Secretary offered assurances that this would be the case and said that an energy group within the Business Department is working on plans to help the manufacturing industry.
Manufacturing has had a major role in the Black Country for years and James also used the opportunity to highlight the work of energy intensive companies, such as Somers Forge. James is keen to ensure that the Government’s green reforms do not unfairly hit the local manufacturing industry.
James Morris commented: “Manufacturing can drive the economic recovery in the Black Country and it is vital that it is given our full support. I will continue to press the Government to ensure that the sector is not unfairly hit by plans to reduce emissions”
