Register and save a life

11th January 2012

James Morris is urging local residents to make their New Year resolutions to save a life by joining the NHS Organ Donor Register.

Although people can join the Register at the same time that they send off for a driving licence, register with a GP or even when they apply for a Boots Advantage card, only 24.5% of people in the West Midlands have signed up – one of the lowest figures in the country.

Calling on Halesowen and Rowley Regis families to check whether they are registered, James Morris said:

“Organ transplants are a miracle of modern medicine, making it possible to save the lives of people who not previously have stood a chance. However, this is only possible if people register their agreement that, after they have died, their organs can be used to help others.

“Joining the Organ Register could not be easier. It takes seconds to do but could literally mean the difference between life and death for somebody.

“I know that if somebody in my family needed an organ transplant I would be desperate for a donor to be found and I am sure that other families will feel the same.”

You can join the NHS Organ Register by calling 0300 123 2323 or by texting SAVE to 84118.
