Work promised on town centre “eyesore”

10th January 2012

Action to bring buildings in Halesowen High Street up to scratch has been promised by the buildings’ landlords.

The buildings, which house businesses including The Carpet Shop and Rainbow Café, have been slammed as an “eyesore” and “a blight on the High Street” by Halesowen shoppers.

Halesowen & Rowley Regis MP James Morris wrote to the owners of the buildings after being contacted by a number of local residents about the peeling paint along the tops of the shop fronts.

The owners, Kewbridge Ltd, have now replied to say that they have arranged for the necessary maintenance work to be done.

Welcoming the news that the repairs would now be carried out, Mr Morris said:

“The paint above the shops is peeling badly, making the buildings look extremely scruffy and poorly maintained. As these shops are at the entrance to the main shopping area in Halesowen, the state of them creates a very poor first impression for shoppers entering the town centre.

“Whilst it is extremely good news that the owners have now agreed to carry out this work, I shall be keeping a close eye on what progress is being made because Halesowen should not have to put up with any further unnecessary delay.”
